Biography

Nina RAUTIO graduated from the Saint-Petersburg Conservatoire and prizewinner of the International Contests of Rio of Janeiro and of Tchaïkovsky.

Nina RAUTIO gave her first performance in the West in 1991 while on tour with the Bolshoï in the United States where she sang at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Festival of Edinburg.

These performances have confirmed her talent of an exceptional artist and was then invited by the Scala of Milan for MANON LESCAUT under the direction of L.Maazel who then invited her for the recording of the opera under his direction.

Her triumph has been such that her artistic carrier got boosted assuring her of numerous engagements around the world, among them : DON CARLOS for the opening representation of the season at La Scala of Milan with L.PAVAROTI under R.Muti , THE QUEEN OF SPADES at the Opéra de la Bastille, the Verdi REQUIEM in Munich with L.Pavarotti, THE MAID OF ORLEANS with the BBC, a new production that also came out in video, OTELLO at the Chorégies d'Orange, the SYMPHONY N°2 from Mahler at the Salzburg Festival, under L.Maazel, AIDA in a production by Zeffirelli for the opening season of the Rome Opera, UN BALLO IN MASCHERA and AIDA at Covent Garden which gave her a double triumph, MANON LESCAUT, ANDRE CHENIER at the Staatsoper in Vienna, AIDA at the Metropolitan Opera and the Opera of Washington, NORMA at the Opera of Los Angeles, at the Arenes of Verona, TOSCA at the Bayrische Staatsoper as well as an invitation by R.Chailly for the participation with the Royal Orchestra of the Concertgebouw in a Christmas concert broadcast for Eurovision.

Nina RAUTIO has recorded Manon Lescaut by SONY, The Maid of Orléans by TELDEC, Experience from Puccini, Tchaïkovsky, Complete Works as well as Romances from S.Rachmaninov by BMG/CONIFER and Mavra by BIS.

Her repertoire includes AIDA, DON CARLOS, NABUCCO, UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, SIMON BOCCANEGRA, OTELLO, NORMA, MANON LESCAUT, ANDRE CHENIER, TOSCA, CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, LADY MACBETH, WALLY, LA DAME DE PIQUE, LA PUCELLE D’ORLEANS.
