The American bass-baritone, Leslie W. Guinn, has performed with many major symphony orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Baltimore, National, Cincinnati and l'Orchestre de Monte Carlo. Summer festival appearances include Tanglewood, Grant Park, Meadowbrook, Caramoor, Saratoga, Casals, Carbillo and Aspen, where he served as artist/teacher for 14 summers.
Leslie Guinn made his European debut in 1983 with the Stuttgart Opera singing the title role in a new production of Alban Berg's Wozzeck. He appeared as guest artist with the Bonn Opera in 1990, followed by a series of performances as Wotan in a new production of Wagner's Ring cycle with the Hannover Opera.
Leslie Guinn has premiered many new works, including the USA premiere of William Bolcom's Songs of Innocence and Experience; Menotti's Song of Hope with the Philadelphia Orchestra; Christopher Rouse's Mitternacht Lieder, which was dedicated to Leslie Guinn; and George Rochberg's String Quartet No. 7 with Voice, which was written for Leslie Guinn.
Leslie Guinn's recording of the G. Rochberg String Quartet No. 7 and Barber's Dover Beach with the Concord String Quartet won a Grammy nomination for best chamber music recording and was included in High Fidelity's list of Best American Music on Record. His recording Songs of Stephen Foster with mezzo-soprano Jan DeGaetani was named Record of the Year by Stereo Review magazine.
